PORTLAND, Ore. Some rivalry matches fail to live up to the hype. Saturday’s match between the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders was not of them.

In a game that saw lead changes, long-distance goals, a hat trick and a brace, numerous shots off the woodwork, and seven yellow cards, the Timbers and Sounders dueled to a 4-4 draw in front of a sold-out Providence Park, with Seattle overcoming a two-goal deficit in the final five minutes.

Clint Dempsey scored a hat trick, including two goals in the final five minutes  for Seattle, while Diego Chara’s brace led the way for Portland. Goals were also scored by Portland’s Diego Valeri and Maxi Urruti and Seattle’s Kenny Cooper.

After scoring midway through the first half, Dempsey notched the hat trick by scoring in the 85th and 87th minutes to deliver a stunning finish to a wild match. The hat trick was Dempsey’s first since returning to MLS last season and gives the American International four goals in his three MLS matches this season.

It always feels good to score goals and it feels a little bit sweeter against your rivals, Dempsey said.

His 85th-minute goal came when he put home a deflection from the top of the six-yard-box, while the game-tying goal came after substitute Ben Zemanski took down DeAndre Yedlin in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Andrew Weber went the wrong way as Dempsey scored the final goal of a crazy match. The quick goals in succession left Portland questioning their own resolve.

In these type of games, Portland-Seattle, until the final whistle you have to maintain focus, Valeri said. And we didnt.

Dempsey, who played midweek for the U.S. National team in Phoenix, was glad to be in the lineup and to continue his positive start to the MLS season.

You always feel good when you are contributing, scoring goals or getting assists. Im in a good rhythm at the moment and its about continuing that form, Dempsey, who has four goals and an assist in three league matches in 2014.

While each team will take one point from the match, the Sounders were the ones who left Providence Park upbeat.

That point today felt like more than a point, it almost kind of felt like a win, Dempsey said.

Portland, on the other hand, is left without a win after five games this season, three of which were at the friendly confines of Providence Park.

Were up 4-2, and although we tied the game, which is a positive, it still feels like we definitely should have came out on top, Weber said.

Webers words echoed that of his coach.

We got another point, thats the positive, Caleb Porter said. You have to remember that, remind yourself of that, but you cant be satisfied.

In the opposing locker room, the talk was about how the late comeback can serve as a building block of things to come.

The birthday boy Chara was the catalyst for Portland as he scored on two long-range shots, one in each half. The Colombian midfielder more known for his tackles than his goalscoring ability, found the back of the net for the first time since the 2011 season.

Chara’s first goal tied things up in the ninth minute, while his 57th minute goal gave Portland the lead. Both of his goals came after he was left room to shoot by the Sounders defense.

Just five minutes after Chara’s first goal, Valeri put the Timbers ahead for the first time in the match, with a nice turn-and-shoot move that ended with the ball flying over the head of a helpless Stefan Frei. It was Valeris first goal of the season and sent Providence Park into a fervor after three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the match.

To play in an atmosphere like this is something youre going to remember for your whole life, Weber said.

Chara’s second goal of the match was almost immediately followed by Urruti putting his name on the scoresheet after finding a gap in Seattle’s defense. After a few dribbles towards the net, the Argentine curled a shot from near the top of the penalty area between Chad Marshall and Frei.

For him to smack two goals from the top-of-the-18, thats a real positive, Porter said.

The game’s first goal came just three minutes into the match, when Cooper, who played with the Timbers in 2011, found himself unmarked for an easy tap-in off a Jalil Anibaba shot. Anibaba redirected a Gonzalo Pineda corner kick on the goal.

Porter believed the majority of his team played well, however, it was individual errors that cost his club the match.

If Im rating my players, the majority of them are getting an eight or nine. But the problem is there are a couple guys who are a five or six, or less, Porter said. That ultimately led to the goals given up.

Cooper and Weber, who was making the start for the suspended Donovan Ricketts, became the first players to play for both teams in this rivalry match at the MLS level.

The atmosphere that the fans on both sides create is amazing. And I think people who arent fans of either team, I think they get excited about this one and enjoy it, Cooper said. Im sure anyone watching at home was thrilled with the amount of goals that were scored today.

With eight combined goals, the match was the highest scoring game in the history of the rivalry, which started in 1975 in the NASL. The draw dropped the Timbers to 0-2-3, while the Sounders are now 2-2-1. Portland will once again try to get their first win of the season when they take on Chivas USA at home on Saturday. Seattle, meanwhile, will make the trip to Texas to take on FC Dallas.

MacMath saves late PK to help Union salvage draw vs. Fire | Soccer By Ives

By IVES GALARCEP

The Philadelphia Union watched another late lead disappear, and when Aaron Wheeler clumsily stuck a leg out and fouled Juan Luis Anangono in the penalty area to give the Chicago a last-second penalty kick, it looked as though the Union were set for another nightmare ending.

Zac MacMath saw to it that the Union dropped just two points, and not all three.

The Union goalkeeper dove to his right and stopped Mike Magees well-placed penalty kick with an outstretched hand, then blocked Magees follow-up rebound shot to help the Union hold on to a 2-2 tie at Toyota Park on Saturday.

MacMath denied Magees chance of scoring his second goal of the day after opening the match with a 16th-minute finish.

The Union took control of the match mid-way through the first half, with Maurice Edu equalizing in the 32nd minute and Leo Fernandes scoring a surprising goal after floating a long free kick from the wing past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson just seven minutes later.

The Fire pressed for an equalizer and became the latest team to score a late goal against the Union when Anangono headed a Mike Magee free kick past MacMath in the 86th minute.

The goal marked the third time in five matches this season where the Union squandered a lead in the 80th minute or later.

The Union looked destined to lose after Wheeler was whistled for raising his leg and fouling Anangono in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, but MacMath stepped up to make the vital saves to preserve the point for Philadelphia.

Mari nets two golazos in Rapids' win over the Whitecaps

By TYLER GRAY

The Colorado Rapids hadn’t scored from the run of play in three games this season but midfielder Jose Mari decided to change all that, and in spectacular fashion.

The match was going well for the Vancouver Whitecaps they were up a goal via Darren Mattocks and playing well when things went sideways in the 77th minute. Matias Laba saw a second yellow, reducing Vancouver to 10 men for the final 15 minutes of the match.

Mari then took control, blasting two beautiful, long-range strikes within two minutes of each other to secure the 2-1 victory for the visiting Rapids.

Mari’s first strike was a thing of beauty. The 26-year-old Spaniard curled a shot with the outside of his left foot from 25 yards out, stinging the inside of the far post and bouncing into the back of the net, leveling the match at 1-1.

His second goal was not nearly as prolific, but it was just as pretty. Rapids midfielder Nathan Sturgis received a cross right at the top of the 18’ and played it back to an eager Mari, who struck the ball with the inside of his right foot. It curled to almost the exact same spot as Maris first, giving the Rapids the 2-1 lead and eventual victory.

Laba saw red for a careless mental error on his part in the 77th minute. After falling to the ground as a result of a questionable challenge from Nick Labrocca, Laba reached out and grabbed the ball even as play had not stopped, prompting the referee to blow the whistle and issue the Argentine his second yellow.

Minutes before, Whitecaps midfielder Pedro Morales was inches away from doubling the lead and possibly icing the match when the home side was on a 3-on-1 break. However, Morales’ shot was deflected just enough by Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin and the shot went wide.

Vancouver did strike first in the 67th minute when Kenny Miller exhibited some excellent hold-up play, controlling the ball with his head before sending it ahead of a streaking Mattocks. The Jamaican international put his boot through the ball and Irwin was unable to do enough to stop it.

Mental errors and some slack defending, however, did the Whitecaps in and they experienced their first loss of the young season.

The Rapids will feel encouraged from this victory, even though they did have a bit of help. They clawed back from a deficit and got two spectacular goals from the run of play, something they haven’t been able to do all season long.

Next up, the Rapids head to Toronto FC on Saturday while head to Los Angeles to face the Galaxy.

Arsenal may still have a glimmer of hope for an English Premier League title this season, but they will be focused on keeping hold of a Champions League spot Sunday when they visit Everton at Goodison Park.

Fifth-place Everton have a match in hand on fourth-place Arsenal heading into Sundays headline EPL clash on Merseyside. Tim Howard and the Toffees have won six straight matches at home and their eyes on a long-awaited return to European competitionanother victory could go a long way in their fight to make the Top 4 this season. Sundays match is expected to be a close one as the last eight league matches between the two sides have either been decided by one goal or ended in a draw.

After Arsenal and Everton clash at Goodison Park, all eyes in the EPL will be on Upton Park when Liverpool face West Ham United. The high-scoring Reds can move back to the top of the league with a win or draw against the Hammers, who lost 4-1 to Liverpool earlier this season.

Elsewhere, AS Roma look to maintain pressure on first-place Juventus in Serie A with another victory against Cagliari. AS Monaco hope to stay in the race for the Ligue 1 title with a home win against Alejandro Bedoya and Nantes. The USWNT will try to rebound from their disappointing Algarve Cup performance when they host China in the first of two stateside friendlies.

Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind | Soccer By Ives

By FRANCO PANIZO

Alejandro Bedoya seems to really get up for matches against AS Monaco.

After delivering a strong performance at right wingback against the French heavyweights back in the fall, Bedoya found the back of the net playing in a central role in a 3-1 loss on Sunday. Bedoya scored a late consolation goal in the 78th minute, heading home a cross from the left. The goal was Bedoyas fourth in league, fifth across all competitions and first since Dec. 6, 2013.

Two other U.S. Mens National Team players got on the scoresheets in their respective clubs games this weekend. Danny Williams netted a spectacular game-winning strike in Readings 1-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic, a result that put the Royals five points clear of Nottingham Forest in the race for the final promotion playoff spot. Aron Johannsson scored and also had an assist in AZ Alkmaars 2-2 draw with Roda JC Kerkrade, but his performance was marred by a late miss in front of an open goal that surely wouldv have given AZ all three points.

Tim Howard had reason to celebrate, as he and Everton moved one step closer to competing in next seasons UEFA Champions League with a 3-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday. Howard made five saves in the game for the Toffees, who are now just one point shy of the Gunners fourth-place position and still have a game in hand.

It was not all good news this weekend, especially not for defenders. Oguchi Onyewu and Michael Orozco both suffered first-half knocks and were removed before halftime. Onyewu sustained a back muscle problem and was taken off during the break in Sheffield Wednesdays 2-1 loss versus Leicester City. Orozco lasted just 22 minutes before being replaced in Pueblas 0-0 draw with Atlas because of an apparent hamstring knock.

SuperClasico 4/6 – Galaxy Thrash Chivas 3-0 EXPANDED FINAL

By MARK EDWARD HORNISH

CARSON, Calif. The LA Galaxy and CD Chivas USA squared off in the 29th edition of the SuperClasico on a warm Sunday afternoon at the Stub Hub Center. The result was just like old times, with the Galaxy putting on a dominating performance, downing the Rojiblanco, 3-0, in front of an announced crowd of 15,008.

Galaxy captain Robbie Keane tallied first, ushering with his hips a Dan Gargan cross header past a lunging Dan Kennedy to push the ball over the goal line in the 37th minute. Stefan Ishizaki was sent in by Juninho just minutes later and found pay dirt with a clever left footed chip from a sharp angle to double the Galaxy lead.

The visitors final and best goal came in the 56th minute, when the black-clad Galaxy put on a sparkling display of combination play in the attacking third. LA strung together 11 consecutive touches that culminated with Landon Donovan, back to the goal, parked on the penalty spot, laying the ball back to Baggio Husidic, who drove a shot hard and low to beat Kennedy into the left corner of the netting.

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena sent out a surprising lineup, and the unlikely formation paid off. Donovan moved up top, paired with his old strike partner Keane for the first time this season. Arena left Gyasi Zardes off the 18 man roster, and strung together a veteran midfield of Husidic, Stefan Ishizaki, Juninho, and Sarvas.

Theyre all good soccer players, said Arena regarding his midfielders after the game.  Theres enough bite in them, where they can win tackles…they can all pass the ball pretty well.  Those are good characteristics for midfield players.

Arena played Ishizaki centrally, at the top of a midfield diamond, while swinging Husidic out wide left.  Both players were added to the roster  in the offseason. However, it was Ishizaki who was brought in to give the Galaxy width in the attack, and Husidic to give the Galaxy depth centrally.

This reversal of roles paid obvious dividends, as Ishizaki started the buildup on the first goal with a beautiful long cross before netting the second himself. Husidic meanwhile added the third goal, and should have had a brace when he was left open in front of net in the 90th minute, stopped only by a strong diving effort by a beleaguered Kennedy.

I think Bruce has played a lot of central midfielders in the diamond shape, Husidic said. Hes kind of hoping for us to play more possession, more passing kind of team, get the outside backs around.  It seems to be working.

It was not all joy for the Galaxy. Left back Tod Dunivant, recovering from a persistent hamstring injury and making his first start of the MLS season, had to exit the game early, clutching his abdomen. Minutes later, right back Dan Gargan took a hard spill defending an Erik Torres run into the box and came up a full minute later groggy and clutching his shoulder.

With A.J. De La Garza and James Riley both out of the lineup with injuries, the Galaxy can ill afford to lose any more fullbacks. Rookie Oscar Sorto made his first appearance with the Galaxy first team, coming on for Dunivant in the 75th minute. When Gargan came out, Arena was out of fullbacks, and had to resort to bringing on center back Tommy Meyer to play one of the wide slots.

For Chivas USA, it can only be viewed as a disappointing result, after accumulating five points in their first four games, and looking much improved in the process. They showed little in the attack, while being repeatedly exposed in the back.

Today, since Ive been here, we played our worst game, as a team, individually and collectively, said Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabreras. Todays game is not a game that you take lightly, especially with the LA Galaxy.  They (out)played us, and we never were a threat.

If Sunday was a step back, Chivas USA will have to wait until the 30th SuperClasico to try to take back the Stub Hub Center from their big brothers. The Galaxy have now beaten the Goats three straight without surrendering a goal. The next SuperClasico is June 8.

The Galaxy host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night, April 12, while Chivas heads to Portland to attempt to right the ship.

Amid flurry of chances, USWNT coast past China | Soccer By Ives

By CAITLIN MURRAY

It wasnt quite the roaring comeback the U.S. Womens National Team wanted after a rough Algarve Cup last month, but the Americans coasted to victory Sunday in Denver using a newer formation over China, 2-0.

In their second time starting in a 4-3-3 under coach Tom Sermanni, the USWNT seemed to be their own worst enemy, failing to finish on a flurry of chances as China threatened very little for a friendly in front of 14,903 fans.

With 23 shots for the Americans – 12 of them on goal – Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe found the breakthroughs as China only had one shot all game.

In the 39th minute, Sydney Leroux touched off a frantic sequence of deflections after charging Chinese goalkeeper Zhang Yue for the ball in a crowded box. The ball bounced to the feet of Holiday, who fired it from the top of the box past an out-of-position Yue for the lead.

Rapinoe scored the insurance goal in the 79th minute on an in-swinging free kick that took a bounce through traffic and slipped far post past a diving Yue.

Since Sermanni took over the USWNT in January 2013, Sunday marked their second time starting with a three-front of Leroux, Christen Press and Heather OReilly, usually only switching to the formation late in games for an offensive boost.

It seemed a bit unjust for Leroux to not get on the scoreboard herself after creating the bulk of the Americans chances. She had a couple good long-range looks on goal inside the first 16 minutes, forcing saves, and she relentlessly kept Chinese defenses busy all game.

In their last three meetings against China, the U.S. had scored at least four goals, but a win in a less familiar formation without injured Alex Morgan should give the USWNT a confidence boost after the Algarve Cup last month. There, the USWNT snapped a 43-game unbeaten streak against Sweden and then conceded a record five goals in a single match against Denmark.

The USWNT will face China again on Thursday in San Diego, Calif.

What did you think of the match? What did you think of the 4-3-3 formation? How will the USWNT do against China on Thursday?

Monday Kickoff: Chelsea banking on Eto'o fitness; Camp Nou upgrades approved; and more

By DAN KARELL

Chelsea are resting their UEFA Champions League hopes on the health of forward Samuel Etoo.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star has been dealing with a hamstring strain since going off early on March 22 in Chelseas 6-0 victory against Arsenal, but over the course of the season has been the best center forward on Chelseas roster. Etoo has scored 11 goals this season in all competitions, with all of them coming at home.

After losing 3-1 at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hoping that Etoo can become fit enough to start. Etoo took part in training on Monday, though he mostly trained on the side with an assistant coach. If Etoo isnt available, its thought that Mourinho will turn to Fernando Torres or Andre Schurrle to play as the lone striker.

Here are some more stories to start off your week:

CAMP NOU RENOVATIONS APPROVED

Even with all of the money spent by Barcelona on Neymars transfer over the past eight months, the club is ready to reach deep into its pockets once more.

Barcelona club members, known as socios, voted last Saturday overwhelmingly to approve a referendum to improve and renovate Barcelonas stadium, the Camp Nou, and its surrounding structures. The main part of the project will see the Camp Nou undergo a face lift and increase its capacity to 105,000.

27,161 members of the club voted yes to the Espai Barca project, which will cost an estimated 600 million euros ($824 million) for the whole project and 400 million euros for the Camp Nou renovations. The Camp Nou remodeling is scheduled to begin in 2017 and be finished by 2021, with work mainly being done in the summer months.

ZIDANE TO TAKE OVER AT REAL MADRID IN 2016

Real Madrid are looking into promoting a club legend to the manager position in two years.

According to reports in France, former Galactico Zinedine Zidane is rumored to take over for manager Carlo Ancelotti when the Italians contract runs out at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Zidane is currently Ancelottis assistant manager, after spending two years as Real Madrids sporting director.

Zidane spent the last five years of his career in Madrid with Los Blancos, appearing in more than 200 matches in all competitions and scoring 49 goals.

European Weekend Rewind: Everton defeat Arsenal; Atletico hang on to win; and more | Soccer By Ives

By JUSTIN FERGUSON

For the last 16 seasons, Arsene Wenger has managed Arsenal to a top-four, Champions League-qualifying spot in the English Premier League table.

After Sundays trip to Goodison Park, the Gunners are going to need some outside help if they are to make it 17 straight.

Fifth-place Everton moved one point behind Arsenal with a match in hand Sunday following their 3-0 victory against Wengers squad. Steven Naismith put the Toffees ahead after just 14 minutes with a rebound from a Romelu Lukaku effort, and Lukaku got his name on the scoresheet 20 minutes later with a strike on his own.

Arsenal struggled to generate a response as USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard made five saves in front of a raucous home crowd. The final blow to Arsenaland their EPL title hopescame in the 61st minute when former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta knocked in an own goal past teammate Wojciech Szczesny. The Gunners, who have been outscored 23-4 in road matches against top-five sides this season, have a more favorable finish to the EPL season than Everton, but Roberto Martinezs side now controls its own fate in the race for a Champions League spot.

In Spain, Atletico Madrid hung onto their narrow lead in their race for the title in La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win at home against Villarreal. Raul Garcia put Atletico ahead in the 14th minute, but the league leaders offense was unable to find another goal in a nerve-wracking match at the Vicente Calderon. Although Villarreal only had one shot on Thibaut Courtois goal, defender Toby Alderwields attempted clearance in the final seconds of the match just flew wide of the post to secure Atleticos position at the top of the table for at least another week.

Here is a closer look at all the weekend’s action from the top leagues in Europe:

ENGLAND

Liverpool maintained their league lead Sunday with a 2-1 victory against West Ham United at Upton Park. Reds captain Steven Gerrard netted a penalty on either side of halftime to lead the visitors to victory against West Ham United and former teammate Andy Carroll, who appeared to foul Simon Mignolet in the buildup to Guy Demels equalizer just before halftime. Gerrards match-winning penalty was also surrounded in controversy as referee Anthony Taylor whistled Hammers goalkeeper Adrian for a foul on Jon Flanagan midway through the second half of a tight contest.

Chelsea bounced back from their recent slide in form Saturday with a 3-0 victory against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge. Blues winger Mohamed Salah marked his first start as a member of Chelsea with a 32nd-minute goal off a pass from teammate Nemanja Matic. Frank Lampard doubled the lead with a rebound from his saved penalty in the 62nd minute, and Willian wrapped up the easy Chelsea victory in the 72nd minute with a fantastic curling effort past Asmir Begovic from just outside the box.

Here are the results from this weekend’s English Premier League action:

Manchester City 4, Southampton 1Fulham 2, Aston Villa 1Crystal Palace 3, Cardiff City 0Hull City 1, Swansea City 0Manchester United 4, Newcastle United 0West Bromwich Albion 1, Norwich City 0Chelsea 3, Stoke City 0Everton 3, Arsenal 0Liverpool 2, West Ham United 1

SPAIN

Second-place Barcelona maintained their pace behind Atletico Madrid on Saturday with a 3-1 home win against last-place Real Betis. Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 16th minute with a penalty conversion, and Jordi Figueras, whose foul led to Messis opener, put the hosts further ahead in the 67th minute with an own goal. GERMANY

Bayern Munich may have already won the Bundesliga title this season, but their long unbeaten run in Germanys top division ended Saturday with a 1-0 loss at Augsburg. Pep Guardiola rested a few starters ahead of Bayerns second quarterfinal leg with Manchester United next week in the Champions League, but Sascha Molders 31st-minute goal was enough to end Bayerns unbeaten run at 53 league matches. Even with the addition of Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller in the second half, Bayerns offense only came up with two shots on goal in their stunning loss.

Former Bundesliga giants Hamburg moved out of the relegation zone and forced the end of Sami Hyppias reign at Bayer Leverkusen with a 2-1 home victory Friday. Hakan Calhanoglu put Hamburg out in front in the fourth minute of the match, and Heiko Westermann drilled a match-winning volley in the 82nd minute to give the hosts a much-needed win. Leverkusen have now won just once in their last nine league matches and have fallen out of the Champions League spots, which led to Hyppias firing as manager on Saturday.

Liga MX Round 14: A Look Back | Soccer By Ives

By DANIEL PRICE

Club America slumped to their fourth home defeat of the season as league leaders Cruz Azul emerged from the Estadio Azteca as 2-1 winners on Saturday evening.

A fast paced game saw its opening goal just before the 20 minute mark. Mauro Formica beat America’s Luis Gabriel Rey to Alejandro Castro’s cross and powerfully headed the ball past the helpless Moises Munoz.

Cruz Azul doubled the lead just before half time through another header, this time from Julio Dominguez Juarez. The defender got a slight touch on a Rogelio Chavez free kick which deceived Munoz and gave the visitors a healthy two goal lead at the break.

The second half saw America pick up two red cards. Andres Andrade received his second yellow card after a poor challenge on Chavez, before Sambueza also picked up a second booking for a 90th minute foul.

America had managed to pull one back immediately prior to the second red card through Raul Jimenez, but it was a mere consolation goal. The result means America are one of four teams on 20 points and their playoff place is still a long way from being assured.

Here’s a closer look at the best of Liga MX from Clausura Round 13:

MONTERREY AND SANTOS LAGUNA IN ENTERTAINING DRAW

Rayados and Santos Laguna drew 2-2 in Monterrey on Saturday night, as the home side threw away a two goal lead and lost the chance to move to within two points of the Liguilla places.

The hosts lead after 23 minutes when Lucas Silva scored Monterrey’s first attempt of the game. The Brazilian headed home Burbano Hernandez’s cross, though the ball took a significant deflection off Oswaldo Alanis. They added a second goal 10 minutes later through 20-year-old Candido Ramirez. Lucas Silva provided the cross and the young midfielder slotted the ball home from the edge of the area.

Santos got one back with half an hour remaining when Sergio Caballos nodded in Darwin Quintero’s freekick, and Los Guerreros completed the comeback in stoppage time when Oribe Peralta managed to beat Orozco at the second attempt.

CAMILO SCORES AS QUERETARO DRAW

Camilo scored the first goal of his Liga MX career as Queretaro came from behind to draw 1-1 with reigning champions Club Leon.

Miguel Sabah scored 54th-minute penalty after Miguel Martínez fouled Franco Arizala in the box, but Queretaro equalized just five minutes later when Camilo got on the score sheet. The former Vancouver Whitecaps player beat his marker to head in Diego de la Torre’s corner from close range.

Leon can be excused for not playing at their best given they have a Copa Libertadores tie on Wednesday and had players representing El Tri last week. The point means Queretaro retain a slight chance of a place in the Liguilla – they are currently 14th, three points behind eighth-place Chivas de Guadalajara.

Atlante look almost certain to face relegation after they lost 2-0 at home to Tigres UANL and Atlas and Puebla drew 0-0 in Guadalajara. Second-place Toluca were beaten 2-1 by Club Tijuana and Pumas UNAM beat Chiapas 2-1 in Mexico City.
